Yesterday I had a question about how I trim my hair and well I don’t! at least not in a traditional sort of way anymore . As Margaret (my reader) graciously pointed out, I trim my hair similar to Mahagony Curls in this post. The only differences are
1.)I do not wait 6 months, 3 months, 2 months…or a year, I do it all the time!
2.) I don’t use gel as a means of getting my hair hard in order to get the trim – I understand why she does it but I personally don’t think it is necessary, knots and splits show up regardless of the products in your hair, whether your hair is hard or soft.
-I do not do any official separating or parting of my hair I literally grab chucks and examine it for knots and splits
-I use my scissors and cut above the knot or split
I do not think that I will ever get rid of all knots, they just come with the territory of curly hair. The only way to effectively rid your hair of knots is to keep it straight. (That is a personal choice)
My remedy for knots and breakage
1.) keep the hair stretched with braids or styles that organize the hair and not leave it wild in the wind to tangle
2.) deep condition often, and by deep conditioning I mean pre-poo conditioning, steaming, or conditioning after a shampoo using heat.
3.) search and destroy knots and splits often
4.) Use some protein when deep conditioning – my hair loved protein, it keeps the fine strands strong and healthy
5.) protect the ends of the hair by wearing buns or tuck and rolls etc. this helps but honestly I am not a fan of locking my hair up all the time aka consistent protective styling. I may do it but only out of convenience and laziness (smile)
Hope that helps…
