I was supposed to make the sock bun last night but I didn’t, …..I wanted to, I meant to find a sock but then got distracted as always. What I did do was dry detangle my hair so that I could do my usual braid out for today. I must be honest I didn’t know there was a specific method to dry detangling until I started reading about it for example check here and here and here. I’ve always done it to relax and unwind, weird right!? Something about separating strands that just eases my mind.
My method - I usually don’t add water or oil when I do it because well then it wouldn’t be dry
My hair is separated into 6 sections in my head (yup because when you are relaxing there shouldn’t be anything methodological to it), then I literally separate my clumps throughout my whole head using my fingers. After I am done with a section I will braid and seal the ends like normal.
The benefit of dry detangling for me is that I am able to remove any knots and snarls that I may have developed all day long.
Note/ Even though this is considered a detangling session the reality is once I am done I still wont be able to run a comb through it from root to tip… who does that anyway??
(hair strands are naturally attracted to each other and even though I am separating they clump back together once the braid is in or if that section is smooshed together for any reason. This is a great thing as it reduces snapping and breaking….. There is strength in numbers )
super simple… and it works for me!
