I rocked the mess out of this braid out this week, I mean the shit was so good I had to post it twice ~ SMH
Just Kiddin’ –
Whitney is serving up Faux Bobs! the style is so simple and kinda genius ~ you ever smack yourself in the head when something so simple is invented and you are like why in the world didn’t I think of that..
Well thanks Whitney, because sometimes we just wanna fake a bob! – And I think this might be the best way to do it hands down
If you are rocking straight hair, you can probably use the same technique and it can look similar to Ciara’s below. Personally I would like to try it on curly straight hair!
To give her faux bob a sexy, rumpled vibe, Ciara tucked the back under but left out the entire front half of her hair, curling it outwards for a flirty flip.
I loved Ebony’s Blog Post because it is a very real topic that many of us debate on a daily basis. Let me say first and foremost that I think Going natural for our daughters does matter, it matters a whole lot. I could take a step back and say that going natural period has its perks, but if you want to set an example of acceptance even if its just with hair for your little girl then why not make the sacrifice.
There are a few schools of thought at play here, one is that we live in a society where adorning ourselves to the point of self distortion is attractive, encouraged and widely accepted. We live in a world where a woman wearing a weave does not think twice about where that human natural hair came from and what sacrifice was made to get it on her head so she can look fly Friday night at the club.
My boobs are too small, my cheeks look weird, I hate my skin tone, bleach this, enhance that, nip this, tuck that, plump this, erase that line! the images of enhancement are all around us and unfortunately our daughters are exposed to ideas that self enhancement is always necessary. As a matter of fact we have all done something to enhance our own beauty at some point in time, I mean lets face it, make up is a multimillion dollar industry! ~ tell me you have never owned some lipgloss!?
My opinion is all that doesn’t matter, what we want to teach our children is that life is about choice. If you are a religeous person thats how things started out, Choice, Do I eat the apple or not?
You want to tell your sweetheart that yes, there are things out there that people do to enhance themselves, but lets get to know ‘us’ first. Lets get to know the potential of our mind, the value of our body and spirit and how we can better serve as humanitarians, because to be human means giving back just as much as we receive.
Natural hair is not ‘Everything” it just seems like it is because you might be reading a blog dedicated to natural hair, it might be a small or big part of your life, who knows, but it is a great start, for teaching appreciation to a young girl who might not be sure that what grows naturally from her is good enough. Mommy s have a wonderful role, because they are the first role models to their little girls, mommys are watched, followed, spoken about to friends, adored by children who are constantly learning.
I would never consider my natural hair as a fad because how can a fad naturally grow from my skull. A Fad, now considered a way of life for some, is what burnt the hec out of the middle of my head causing me to make some critical decisions when it came to my own hair care. A Fad is defined as a short lived craze, I don’t see my own hair as something short lived, unless I have a bald gene I know nothing about.
The point is, teaching young girls to choose self, starts with mommy and daddy, life is about making a choice. We cant run away from the influences of life as we know it, there will always be a ‘Fad’ or craze, or new thing to do, that doesnt mean we quit teaching about value, respect and honor – those might sound like huge things, and hair is just one little thing, but what matters is that one small thing that you use each day to help them ‘get it’! – Even if that thing is only hair
I am the last person you should ask about the benefits of fine hair, I am usually the one complaining with the ‘woes me’ tales of all the tangles and frustration of my hair.
But in truth my hair is pretty cool and really the only thing that needs fixing is my attitude about it. My new thing is, when I find something to complain about I must follow up with something positive about my hair and in practicing that I have discovered that fine hair isn’t so bad after all.
There are some real benefits to having thinner strands and you soon discover that the grass is actually green on this side of the fence so in the spirit of all things positive here are 7 benefits to having fine natural hair.
I am at the store and its almost time for me to go and all I can think about is Jamaican food! – should I be ashamed to write that, maybe? – But then again, hell no, don’t act like you don’t get hungry or think about food on Saturday evening!
Tonight the plan is to go to the new fabulous Look Theater  to see the fabulous Superman! I am excited except for one thing the Jonross factor, usually I am not a fan of seeing small kids at the movies, but damn we haven’t seen a movie in seven months and this theater seems kid friendly and he wont watch it anyway and the lights will distract him, and he wont throw his pacifier in the back of some dude’s head like his dad predicts. (all of this I have included in a silent prayer)
Anyway come hell or high water, we are going! and we plan to have a great time and I plan to have a great dinner with something lovely to drink. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Superman, Shelli at Hairscapades said she hated it, but she is an expert on these things so her expectations are alot higher than mine. Its kinda like my brother, a total X-Men fanatic, he hated one of the X-Men movies and had all the high folluting ~ is that a word?~ reasons why it sucked, but when you didn’t read the comic books and didn’t study it as much as he did, a movie like that to an amateur like me, is well – Phenomenal!
Have you seen Superman? What did you think?
R.I.PÂ Keek and Vine
Were you on Instagram today? I am not gonna lie, Instagram is my ish and I have already expressed myself in no uncertain terms about how I felt about Keek. Vine is new too, I didn’t even let the thought of downloading that thing enter my mind. Like many of us I am burnt out on social media but I can appreciate most of them and I can appreciate even more when one of them does a power move like Instagram did today with there launch of Insta -Video.
Read some of the details here
Lets talk about power moves for a second, to me as simple as the upgrade was, Instagram took back its following who were slightly distracted by some small but ever present competition. I bet someone over at the Instagram head quarters smacked himself in the head when Vine and Keek came out and was like ‘Damn did we just leave out a critical component from our app’ ~ yea you kinda did!
but today, Today you made a come back Instagram and your loyal followers swallowed it up!- Stock up – everything is green again!
I like to think of myself as business savvy, not because I studied alot or have a bunch of degrees, but because I live it every single day, making mistakes, learning from them, finding innovative ways to market products, navigating social media and most importantly trying to look for and make the best power moves. The hubs and I have been in business for the last three years, we did things without a brick and motor for a long time until we were able to finally score a physical location. There is nothing easy about being an entrepreneur, you will work the hardest you have ever worked in your life if you want it badly enough. For us, power moves are the ONLY way we will survive as business people and when someone makes one, we are all ears and eyes.
So what Exactly is a Power Move?
Put simply a Power move in business is that one thing that you do to set yourself apart from the competition. To be successful you have to keep making them, you cant just do one move and get stuck because somebody is always watching and somebody will always find a way to do it better than you.
How to make Power Moves in Business
1. Find ways to set yourself apart from Everyone Else
If you sell hair products, jewelry, clothing, whatever it is, there is always a way you can set yourself apart from the competition. Whether it is customer service, design, website, figure it out and do it. Over and over and over again
2. Don’t let people down
Trust is huge, why do you think Instagram is smiling all the way to the bank? its because even though they just added something they could have done a year ago, they know that we like their App, they made a quality product that is popular and that people trust.
3. Don’t hesitate to Try Something
It just might work, even if you aren’t sure about your idea, try and see if it bites. I cant tell you how many times we have done this, and 8 out of 10 times we always come away with something positive
4. Step Out Of Any Boxes You Fall in
Boxes are silly! use blogs, social media, websites to your advantage, sometimes its
not just about selling the product or service, actually it is about selling the product or service, but what I mean is, a good power move requires creating relationships and longevity so that your move has meaning. To do that you have to literally step outside of your space and do something out of the ordinary. For example we sell model building kits, so we thought it would be nice to host a kit building class on Saturdays for kids and Dads. Its charitable, its fun, and at the end of the day the products sell.
My entrance into the rat race is for us a necessary power move, but I like to call it a chess move and a critical one, so nothing phases me at work because ultimately I know what it is I hope to achieve in the end. Eyes are always on the Prize! Â – They already talking about layoffs – HA!
Look forward to more posts like this as we navigate these entrepreneurial streets!
I know what you are thinking, another post about how weaves pull on the edges of your hair, causing receding hair lines, or something about how not caring for your hair underneath the weave can cause breakage and irreparable damage etc.
You may even have expected pictures of various people who suffer from Traction Alopecia as a direct result of wearing a weave. And of course to seal the deal we could also include something about the not-so-glamorous side of wearing a weave with the poster child Naomi Campbell all over the article.
Well respectfully, you are wrong. There’s only so much we can say about Naomi and her busted edges so our perspective on this article is from a slightly different angle, some of which is somewhat psychological.
If there was an award for the day that appears to be the most reoccurring it would be Monday hands down. Its raining here, like some serious thunderstorm type, ‘my hair is about to be frizzy’ kind of rain. However despite  running across the street in the middle of the tsunami in order to get to the office, my hair still maintained and well Monday has officially begun!
Since we can’t avoid Monday’s I have been really working on ways to get organised but most of all to get my mind right for the rest of the week. To meet your goals you can’t get side tracked by negative thoughts or just random little things so finding ways to improve the start of the week and get focused is top priority. So far I have incorporated a few things, and well, sharing is caring.
Wash and Set My Hair on Sunday  This sets the tone for Monday Morning Fabulous because when your hair looks great chances are your mood will be the same. It doesn’t always work but I can vouch for most of the time. Yesterday I washed, conditioned, oil rinsed and did a braid and curl – Monday Morning Fabulous was in Full effect.
Juice something This means get the groceries done by Saturday so that on Sunday you can create something nutritious with your Juicer. Not only does Juice set the tone for your day but if you had a really bad weekend doing the most with food and couple of shots here and there (smile) – Juicing can be a great detox
 2 green apples
Spend Quiet Time with the Fam I had to add this because for me, it feels as if once 6AM Monday rolls around, I am on a giant rollercoaster and I don’t get time to just stop! Even though during the week there is quiet time, I get more time on Sunday to just play with baby, chill with the fam, maybe watch a movie. Like yesterday we watched Hansel and Gretel – the movie was just ‘ok’ but the time we spent clownin’ the movie was priceless.
Read and MeditateÂ
– I try to read something that helps me personally, everyone needs a little therapy, and for those of us who can’t afford a red couch and someone asking you about your childhood memories a self-help book will suffice. I recommend Self Matters by Dr. Phil, great reviews, or any other one that you might like, just get something inspiring.
-meditation means different things for different people so whatever it is that you do that keeps your mind positive you should do it. Meditation is so important especially for stress, Lord knows sometimes you have to just pray stuff away!
Workout hard on Monday Large Muscles only – Back in the day when I used to lift really heavy in Jamaica, my trainer would always want me to do big muscle groups on a Monday, that meant back with some biceps or legs. So essentially my hardest workout day was Monday and I always opted to do legs and spin. Which means my legs were crying after but it felt great! There is just something about going hard on a Monday that makes things easier!
Enjoy Your Monday,
The recession is over, or so they like to say. If that’s the case then why in the world does a sixty dollar jar of product still make my head hurt causing me to reach for some Tylenol with the quickness? To be frank, I believe that paying that much money for a hair product is ridiculous, I don’t know what kind of potion they have in that jar but chances are it is way too magical for me.
Honestly you do not have to spend a fortune on your natural hair, as a matter of fact if you just tweaked your mind set a bit, set a few budget goals then you have won half the battle. Here are 7 ways to avoid spending a fortune on your natural hair:

“I personally don’t see what education comes from someone touching. There doesn’t need to be any touching. You know, black women or women of color, generally, genetically have bigger backsides. Do you need to touch my butt to know why I’m genetically predisposed to having a larger backside? No, you don’t. You can just walk around and accept that people are different.”
The blogs have been going bonkers over the Union Square Exhibit in Brooklyn NY where women with huge signs invited random individuals to touch their hair in the name of education. I am just writing this to say, that if that wasnt the worst idea for ‘things to do on a weekend’ I dont know what is. Stay tuned for commentry on this on the lovely BHI.
I would be the worst model ever, …. ‘dude is that Tarter Sauce on your pinky ewww…keep it moving playa’
Personally I like these models the best:
Hop on over to BHI to see what the girls are saying about the article… And why didn’t y’all tell me Union Square wasn’t in Brooklyn!? smh!.. I need to pay NY a visit, hopefully nobody head fondles me while I am there!
