I am slightly fascinated with this new packaging, I mean who didn’t like Archie comics back in the day? I must have bought a thousand of those things at Manor Park Pharmacy….that and bubble gum tape. (don’t tell mommy)
So MAC decided to be slick and come out with a line of cosmetics celebrating the comic, specifically Archie’s girls, Veronica and Betty. Now this is not a review of the products by any means because I am not one to buy makeup like that but really this is a question for my beauty gurus and makeup lovers.
How many shades of red lipsticks are there really?
The MAC store in the mall is currently packed to capacity with women trying out the new line, they are so excited about the colors and new packaging. I must admit the packaging is super cute, my thing is, if you bought bubble gum pink prior to the launch what makes this bubble gum pink any different? I know they don’t have 50 shades of pink…. or do they? I know the brush kit with those four little brushes @$49.50 can’t be that different….. right?
– Oh I get it… It appeals to the heart of a collector and if I collected makeup I would understand.Â
Its kinda like the guy that collects Jordans? Its the same shoe but it looks good when you have all of them.
There is a lesson to be learned as we rush out and spend hard earned money on the same thing we bought last time. Its the oldest trick in the book, you want to increase sales …change the package! it doesn’t even have to be the package of the item literally it could be just how you present it. I loved that MAC did this because it was innovative and should improve their bottom line until the party is over and they have to think of something else. Don’t be a sucka! unless you are just a sucka for that kind of thing….
